Savanna Trail in Sembalun Sub-District, Lombok Island - Indonesia

Trekking in Rinjani Mountain is both fun and challenging. However, not all people have the stamina to conquer the route. In this case, a good alternative is available for beginners to try and it is called savanna trail. The location is in Sembalun Sub-District and it has become a popular site to enjoy casual trekking without spending much time and energy. The good thing is that it consists of different spots with similar characteristics. No wonder, more travelers are interested to visit it and get a new experience during their visit to Lombok Island.

The Nuance
Unlike regular trekking routes of Rinjani Mountain, the savanna trail features a calmer landscape and more peaceful atmosphere. No big trees are seen on the site and tourists can see vast grassland instead. They look fresh, but some of them start to dry out and emit yellowish color. Such gradation creates amazing scenery, though. Not to mention the view of majestic Rinjani Mountain can be seen clearly on the site. Exploring Savanna Trail
Here is the thing. Savanna Trail is available in different spots, either in Pelawangan Sembalun or Senaru Field. Thus, it is better to come with a porter or local guide to get to the site efficiently. The trip usually starts from Sembalun Village. After spending trekking for about 1-2 hours, tourists may find the savanna right away. The grassy land with its strong wind awaits them up there. Not to mention the trail is considered easy and safe for everyone to explore. Later, they may continue the adventure to go up higher and reach the top of Rinjani Mountain! Though, it is only suitable for those who are well-prepared and come with good stamina.

What can people do in Savanna Trail, actually? Once trekkers arrive at the site, they must not forget to take some pictures of the field. The beautiful green-yellow grasses look so astonishing, after all. Also, their size is quite tall (even kids can hide in them without getting found). One thing, make sure to come during nice weather so they can conduct photography without hassles. What is more?

Camping is possible, but it is not recommended in Savanna Trail. The reason is none other than the landscape isn't quite good to build the tent. Not to mention the scenery is not that great as compared to other camping sites like Pelawangan Sembalun Field. As an alternative, trekkers may continue the trip and head to either Pelawangan Senaru or Sembalun for camping.

How to Get There
Savanna Trail is the part of Sembalun Sub-District. For those coming from Mataram City, they need to spend around 3 hours to get to the location. Actually, the distance is approximately 90.4 km. Later, visitors need to do short trekking to get to the savanna. Have no worries. It is going to be a fun trip and adventure.
